MEMBERSHIP
Membership consists of all persons, currently or previously, paid or volunteer, engaged in administrative and secretarial work in any local church, extension ministry and/or in any agency of The United Methodist Church. For a member to be in good standing, annual dues must be paid for the current calendar year.
ANNUAL DUES
Annual membership dues are due and payable in January and are effective through December. Rate of annual dues is listed on the application form.
CHAPTERS
1. A chapter may be organized where three (3) or more persons have shown an interest. Chapters may be established as the membership needs are defined (i.e. city, district, conference, state, jurisdictional).
2. New chapters are to be organized according to the bylaws of the national association. Existing groups are encouraged to follow the same guidelines.
3. The leadership of the local chapter should be patterned after the structure of the national association. During the formation year, only the president is required to be a national member. In subsequent years the chapter president, vice president, secretary and treasurer are required to be national members in good standing.
4. Each chapter files an annual request for registration or re-registration.
5. Local chapter dues are determined by the local chapter.
6. Each chapter is encouraged to send representatives to the PAUMCS Annual Conference. Scholarships are available through the national association.
ORGANIZING A CHAPTER
These are some basic suggestions for the organization of a local chapter of Professional Association of Untied Methodist Church Secretaries:
a. Contact the vice president for formation guidelines. Meet informally with United Methodist Church Secretaries in your area, district, or conference; Develop a mailing list of secretaries within the area you have targeted; Develop a mission statement for your group and establish a regular meeting time;
b. Begin communicating your vision to all of the church secretaries and United Methodist Churches/Agencies in your area;
c. Establish a support system from the cabinet for your vision;
d. Organize workshops and retreats to enhance the work of the secretaries;
Assist the church secretaries by supporting them in their local church efforts and in their desire to become an organized chapter.
